What to check if your pay appears to be wrong on your payslip

If you have been paid but the amount appears on first review to be incorrect, there can be many explanations.  It is helpful to make sure that you understand your payslip and the way shift pay, enhancements and holiday pay are displayed.  If you still need assistance, please reach out to the bookings team.

Payslip is showing a lower-than-expected pay rate

Payslips can be difficult to interpret. The payslip will show separate lines for Basic Pay and Holiday Pay, and this may mean you see a different rate than you were quoted.

This is an example of a Band 2 payslip, we quote the Band 2 rate as £14.42 including holiday pay, but as you can see, the payslip does not say £14.42 anywhere.

What you see is that there is a line that says “Add Basic Pay” providing the number of hours worked at £12.8662.   Underneath this, you can see a separate line that says WTD Pay – this is your holiday pay.

Here the calculation for the WTD pay is £11.65 / by hours worked (7.5) = holiday pay per hour (£1.54933)
Holiday pay per hour (£1.54933) + Basic pay (£12.8662) = Band shift rate £14.42

Check your payslip to ensure you are still confident that you have not been paid correctly before contacting our payroll team.

There was a change to the deadline due to a bank holiday

If there was a bank holiday in the week of your shift, it may be that a shift was worked or finalised after the payroll deadline. Check your emails for details of when the payroll deadline was moved to and look to see if your shift has been finalised

One or more of your shifts were not finalised in time for payroll

It may be that you have worked multiple shifts across departments and that one or more of those shifts was not finalised in time for payroll, resulting in a partial or incomplete payment.

You may have missing shifts

If shifts are missing or hours are incorrect, you will be able to view this on EOL, if you select the “view roster” tab and “personal roster” you will be able to see every past, present, and future shift that you have been booked into. If you can see there are missing shifts or incorrect hours, please contact the payroll team via email with those details at imperial.staffbank.payroll@nhs.net
